The Leica X2 – Dressed to Impress

We all aspire to own something in sync with our own personal taste, something unique, something that evokes that question – ‘Where did you get that from?’

Leica has recognized this desire in many of us and has expanded its à la carte program. From vibrant and fashion forward to understated and discreet, Leica offers a selection of styling options for the Leica X2 compact camera.

In addition to black and silver, the X2 is now also available in an exclusive, titanium-colored, anodized finish. The color and texture of the camera’s leather covering can also be selected to further personalize your X2. This includes ten different leather trim options, with a diverse choice of colors. In addition, cameras can be personalised with engraving on the flash cover or the top plate. These options ensure that each Leica X2 à la carte model is absolutely unique.

The camera by the way, features an impressive APS-C format, professional CMOS image sensor with 16.5 megapixels. Combined with a Leica Elmarit 24 mm f/2.8 ASPH. lens, you have not only a stylish, colorful camera, but a high performance image maker.

A Hands on Look at Leica’s New Cameras

Yesterday, our good friend and Leica rep Tom Brichta brought a pre-production M Monochrom and the new X2 with finder and grip for us to play with here at Camera West in Walnut Creek. These cameras have yet to be released to the public so it was great to get a hands on preview. Tom also shared with us some images he shot with the Monochrom out at Fort Point in San Francisco where he pushed the ISO to 10,000! See the image below and note how even at that high of an ISO, the highlights do not blow out and the deep shadows retain detail. The Monochrome should be available in mid August and the X2 in just a few short weeks.

Even the finest details are rendered with more than 50% contrast – a previously unheard of value that confirms the exceptional properties of this lens.

Leica Camera AG presents a new accessory for the Leica S professional camera system: the Leica S-Adapter H. This adapter allows the portfolio of Hasselblad H- system lenses to be mounted onto a Leica S2 camera body with all lens functions, such as autofocus, central shutter control and automatic diaphragm, retained. The smart electronics of the adapter facilitate the complete integration of the lenses into the Leica S-System.

And finally, Leica Camera AG is expanding the product range for the Leica S professional camera system with five new central shutter lenses, available from October 2012. The new models are the Leica Elmarit-S 30 mm f/2.8 ASPH. and Leica Summarit-S 35 mm f/2.5 ASPH. wide-angle lenses, the Leica Summarit-S 70 mm f/2.5 ASPH. standard lens, the Leica APO-Macro-Summarit-S 120 mm f/2.5 tele-macro lens and the Leica APO-Tele-Elmar-S 180 mm f/3.5 telephoto lens, all of which will also be available in a CS version with a central shutter. Designed and constructed exclusively by Leica, the central shutter available for all S lenses is not only especially compact and efficient, but also has a guaranteed service life of at least 100,000 shutter cycles, making it extremely reliable.
