Palm Springs Village Fest Photo Walk

We would like to invite you to spend Thursday evening, January 29th, with us during our street fair photo walk. The Palms Springs Street Fair presents a wonderful opportunity for street photography. We will be starting our walk at Tutti Frutti on Palm Canyon near LG’s steak house at 7:00, and then we will reconvene back at the Tutti Frutti at 9:00pm to share our pictures.

We recommend that you bring your camera, a lens (preferably a fast one) and a jacket, since it might get a bit cold out. This event is free of charge and we invite all to come out and join us! See you there!

Moonrise over Alcatraz Photo Walk

A big thank you to everyone who joined us last night for the Camera West photo walk in San Francisco!

Last evening Michael from Camera West Walnut Creek led a group of 20 enthusiastic photographers to Fort Point in San Francisco for the Camera West Walnut Creek photo walk to shoot the rising full moon over Alcatraz Island. Conditions could have been better as there was quite a bit of haze, but we were thankful that the rain and fog stayed away.

With our long lenses, it was tough to cut through all that haze to get clarity and contrast, but just witnessing such a beautiful moon rise above the bay waters made it all worthwhile. We are so fortunate to live here in the bay area.

February Photo Walk : Cataract Creek Waterfalls

Photos by Michael Maloney

Let’s try this one again…fingers crossed that we have a wet winter!

Take a hike with Michael from Camera West in Walnut Creek on this photo walk alongside beautiful Cataract Creek on the north slope of Mt Tamalpais in Marin County. The winter rains provide plenty of water for tiny Cataract Creek producing a series of small waterfalls that drop through a forest canopy of redwood, Douglas fir, oak, and maple trees.

This photo walk is for photographers of all abilities. Only requirements are a camera that will allow you to manually set the shutter speed, and a sturdy tripod. Michael will show you how to photograph moving water and offer some tips to get that silky smooth look to the water.

This photo walk is limited to just 12 photographers so sign up early!

Moonrise over Alcatraz Photo Walk

We are pleased to announce that Michael from our Camera West Walnut Creek staff will again start up his series of popular monthly photo walks.  Each month, he picks a different theme, subject or location in the bay area. Photographers of all abilities are always welcome.

The January photo walk will take us to San Francisco where we will photograph the rising full moon over Alcatraz and the east bay hills.

On Sunday, January 4th, conditions should be perfect as the moon rises near the same time as the sun sets. This gives us the ability to capture detail in both the full moon and the landscape. Michael will be on hand to help with proper exposure and offer tips to help you get a photo you will be proud of.

Don’t miss this opportunity! Sign up early, as participation will be limited to just 20 photographers.

Fireworks with a Twist Photo Walk

Thanks to everyone who joined me last night on our Camera West photo walk where we shot the fireworks show after the Oakland A’s game.

For something different, we put a literal “twist” to our photos. The technique we practiced is a unique one. Rather than just letting the fireworks paint our image, we quickly changed our focus during the short bulb exposure, getting the unusual effects you see in some of these photos.
