New Fast, Close Focusing Primes from Tamron

Tamron has announced two new lenses for its high-end SP (“Super Performance”) lineup: the SP 35mm f/1.8 Di VC USD and the SP 45mm F1.8 Di VC USD. Both are fast lenses that offer image stabilization and extremely close minimum focusing distances – 7.9 inches for the 35mm and 11.4 inches for the 45mm.

The new lenses are powered by an ultra-sonic silent drive for quiet and fast autofocus and have a moisture-resistant design. The nine-blade diaphragm maintains its circular shape to deliver beautiful background blur.

Available in October in Nikon and Canon mounts for $599. A Sony mount is also in the works.

New Lenses from Canon

Canon has just announced two new additions to their EF lens lineup : The EF 24-70mm f4L IS and the EF 35mm f2 IS. These lenses fit into the lineup where previous lenses exist, but improve upon these lenses with the addition of image stabilization and more refined optical technology.

Canon EF 24-70mm F/4L IS

Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L IS
While the f/4.0 maximum aperture is not the fastest among 24-70mm zoom lenses offered by Canon, it does offer a lighter weight alternative than the f/2.8 version. The f/4.0 maximum aperture is also constant throughout the entire zoom range, which is ideal for HDSLR shooting, due to the fact that you can maintain the widest aperture while zooming during video recording. Also contributing to improved video performance is the inner focusing mechanism, that maintains a consistent lens length when focusing or zooming, and an Ultrasonic Motor (USM) that provides fast and quiet autofocusing.

The EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM lens is supplied with a lens pouch and reversible lens hood. It is expected to be available in December for an approximate retail price of $1,499.00.

EF 35mm F/2 IS

The second lens being introduced by Canon, the EF 35mm f/2 IS, is a wide angle prime lens featuring a fast maximum aperture and built-in image stabilization. The EF 35mm f/2 IS excels in HD video applications, due to a rear focusing system and ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM) for fast, quiet, and accurate focusing.

The EF 35mm f/2 IS USM lens is expected to be available in December for an approximate retail price of $849.99.
