David Butow showed us images from his "Seeing Buddha" project
Camera West Walnut Creek friend and customer, David Butow has a Zen Workshop coming up on the first weekend of May in Oakland and Berkeley followed by a day at the Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.
The weekend workshop is designed as a two-day project and Tuesday, May 9th is an optional add-on or may be taken separately. From architecture to calligraphy to painting, visual aesthetics have been an integral part of Zen philosophy and expression. This workshop fuses concepts of clarity of mind with photography to help those at all levels find heightened ways of seeing and communicating with the camera. Through personalized discussion, editing and a simplified approach when photographing, we work on refining each photographer’s own vision and style.
The workshop is led by photojournalist David Butow, who has worked on assignments in dozens of countries around the world, primarily in Asia and the Middle East. His most recent project, Seeing Buddha, contains photographs from over 10 countries including Bhutan, Burma, India, Japan and Sri Lanka, and has been published in The New York Times, National Geographic and Tricycle Magazine. In 2015, he presented the series as a guest lecturer at Stanford University’s Ho Center for Buddhist Studies. Assisting the weekend workshop will be Andrew Andrawes, a former Zen Workshop student who holds a Post-Baccalaureate in photography from the San Francisco Art Institute, and has broad experience in the field as a freelance photographer, customer rep at a camera store and studio manager.
For more information or to reserve a place at the Workshop please email, email@example.com or check out his workshop at Zen Workshops.
