One-on-One lessons with Richard Herzog

Camera West Walnut Creek offers one-on-one lessons. Sessions are from 8:30 am to 9:30 am before the store opens for a quiet, relaxed environment with Richard Herzog. To schedule a session, call us at (925) 935-1424.

Our veteran professional photographer, Richard Herzog, is our expert instructor who brings his extensive photographic experience and amazing enthusiasm to these sessions. Born and raised in Ontario Canada, his passion for photography started at a very early age while watching his grandfather shoot Polaroids. (Richard photographed his first wedding when he was 16 for a prominent NHL hockey player!)

Richards’ formal photography education began at the Banff School of Fine Arts in Alberta, Canada in their Advanced Photographic Imaging and Darkroom techniques program. He then attended the Rochester Institute of Technology, completing his BS in Professional Photography.

Richard has been in the photographic industry for over 25 years, as a professional photographer and as a representative for major photographic manufacturing companies including Kodak, Polaroid, and PhaseOne. He has continued his education by taking several workshops which include advanced lighting techniques with Tony Corbel, event posing with Bambi Cantrell and Yervant, and event photography with Jerry Ghionis and Bambi Cantrell. Richard has also been PhaseOne / CaptureOne certified and has taken several workshops in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom.

The transition from film to the digital technology was significant for Richard, both professionally and personally. Richard’s marketing and sales roles were amongst the first to promote digital cameras and scanners. His personal reviews of products and workflow, lead many professional photographers and their companies to take their first step into digital technology.

In his spare time, Richard loves to go hiking with his wife Melissa, spending time with their two children, and photographing landscapes which can be seen at (
