Just a few more days to see the exhibit ‘Home and Away’, featuring Camera West customer Daniel Postaer’s photos along with fellow grad of the SF Art Institute, Filza Ahmad. Their photos are on display at the Swell Gallery at the SF Art Institute thru this Saturday, the 16th of November.
‘Home and Away’ showcases a series of images that deal with the dichotomy of the familiar and unfamiliar culminating from the individual journeys of photographers Daniel Postaer and Filza Ahmad.
Last summer, Postaer and Ahmad planned to travel to India on a photo-expedition led by Linda Connor. Due to heightened Pakistan-India political tensions and endless bureaucratic red tape, Ahmad (a Pakistani national) was unable to join the group as the Indian government denied her visa. Subsequently, Ahmad decided to capture, for the first time ever, her childhood home of Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia while Postaer continued on with a three-week exploration of Northern India. Both photographers gained access to often-misunderstood nations—reaching a greater sense of understanding of these places from behind the lens.

Join Michael on this photo walk to Marin County where we will take a short walk along Rodeo Beach to photograph the sea stacks just off shore. These unusual rock formations rise out of the shore break and are the perfect focal point for a beautiful sunset photo.
We will shoot as the sun sets, (keeping our fingers crossed for lots of color!) and then continue shooting into twilight, increasing our exposures to get that silky smooth look to the water.
Michael will be on hand to help you get photos you’ll be proud of. You will learn how to choose just the right shutter speed to convey motion, how to use graduated neutral density filters, how to determine proper exposure at night and also how to effectively light foreground objects with light painting.
Only requirements for this photo walk are a solid tripod, a remote shutter release and a flashlight. Also bring along neutral density filters and graduated ND filters if you can.

Leica Camera has announced that a new Leica S2/S2-P firmware update, version LLF016 is available for download. The new firmware improves the performance of the Leica Vario-Elmar-S 30 – 90 mm f3.5-5.6 ASPH. Registered S2/S2-P customers can download the new firmware from the Leica Owners’ Area.
Fujifilm has updated the firmware for many of its X-system lenses to offer full compatibility with the recently-announced X-E2. The upgrades allow the lenses to work properly with the camera’s phase detection AF and, for XF optics, its Lens Modulation Optimizer function. They apply to the 14mm F2.8, 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 OIS, 35mm F1.4, 55-200mm F3.5-4.8 OIS, 60mm F2.4 Macro, and XC 16-50mm F3.5-6.3 OIS lenses.
