Essential f/2.8 telephoto zoom, smaller than ever.

The NIKKOR Z 70-180mm f/2.8 is one of the most popular focal length/aperture combinations of all time. Enough reach for wildlife, sports and events, but also wide enough for portraits, landscapes and everyday shooting. Beautiful background blur. Outstanding low-light performance. All in a lightweight, compact size—and price—that defies convention.

The f/2.8 difference.

The NIKKOR Z 70-180mm f/2.8 is twice as bright as an f/4 lens. This gives you more control of light, more depth of field and more range of expression.

Beautifully blurred backgrounds.

The shallow depth of field of the f/2.8 aperture combines with the natural compression of the telephoto focal length for a stunning three-dimensional effect.
More detail in low light. On a Full-frame/FX-format Z series camera with in-body image stabilization, you can slow down shutter speeds to gather even more light without causing camera blur or raising ISO settings.
Telephoto versatility. Cover a huge range of shots with a single lens, from landscapes and snapshots to sports, wildlife and portraits.

Macro-style close focusing.

Get as close to your subject as 10.68 in. at the 70mm zoom position and 2.79 ft. at the 180mm zoom position for photos and videos that reveal the smallest details.
Lightweight design defies convention. The NIKKOR Z 70-180mm f/2.8 is the lightest, most nimble full-frame f/2.8 telephoto zoom we've ever created. It's over 40% lighter and smaller than the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 S with a smaller diameter. This is a go-to lens for being on-the-go.

Suppressed focus breathing.

When recording videos, smoothly transition focus from the foreground to the background with little change to the angle of view. Tracks eyes with ease.

Autofocus is powered by a highly accurate stepping motor that makes virtually no mechanical noises while tracking your subject—ideal for Eye-Detection AF, recording videos and remaining silent while shooting.

Add even more reach.

Need to get closer to birds, wildlife and sports? Attach a Z series 2x or 1.4x teleconverter and increase the focal length up to 360mm (540mm equivalent on an APS-C/DX-format camera or a full frame/FX-format camera in DX-crop Mode).

Resists dust, drips and smudges.

The entire lens is sealed to prevent dust and water droplets* from getting between you and a great image. The front element features an antifouling coating that resists dirt, fingerprints, and smudges and is easy to clean.

*The lens is not guaranteed to be dust- and drip-resistant in all situations and under all conditions./p>

Technology
  • ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass
An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations
  • Super ED Glass
Nikon has also developed Super ED glass featuring even lower dispersion properties and extremely high performance in reducing the secondary spectrum, to minimize chromatic aberration even further, as well as other lens aberrations.
  • Stepping Motor
NIKKOR Z lenses use a stepping motor for fast, accurate, smooth, quiet autofocus with reduced wobbling. This quiet drive system makes the lenses ideal for use when shooting video.
  • IF Lens
A NIKKOR lens in which only the internal lens group shifts during focusing. Thus, IF NIKKORS do not change in size during AF operation, allowing for compact, lightweight lenses capable of closer focusing distances. These lenses will be designated with the abbreviation IF on the lens barrel.
  • A/M
A/M stands for Auto-Priority Manual Mode. This mode also enables an easy transition from autofocus to manual during AF operation. However, mode switch sensitivity has been altered to reduce the possibility of sudden unintentional switching to manual focus while shooting.
  • Electromagnetic Diaphragm Mechanism
An electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism in the lens barrel provides highly accurate electronic diaphragm or aperture blade control when using auto exposure during continuous shooting.
  • Aspherical Lens
A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface. Used to reduce aberrations and enable a more compact lens size. Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful in correcting distortion in wide-angle lenses and help contribute to a lighter, more compact design by reducing the number of standard (spherical) elements necessary. Aspherical lens elements correct these distortions by continuously changing the refractive index from the center of the lens.

We offer a concierge trade-in program for the gear you'd like to upgrade, cross-grade, or simply pass on to a new owner. This enables you to acquire the tools that fit your specific needs. The easiest way to trade is to bring your gear into one of our stores and meet with us in person. However, we also accommodate those who can't visit our stores. Our online process is both personal and simple.

To begin, fill out the form on our Trade // Sell page with the details of the fine photographic equipment or watches you'd like to trade in. One of our team members will then contact you to confirm any details we might need for an accurate estimate. We will provide an estimate that doesn’t only look at the value of your trade in but the whole picture of where you want to go. If the estimate is satisfactory to you, we can provide a shipping label for you to ship your gear to one of our stores for a final inspection and store credit. Finally, we apply that credit towards your new gear!
