Like taking walks with your camera? Finding inspiration in everyday life? This is the ultra-compact lens for you. It's a joy to carry and shoot: one of the smallest, lightest Z primes. It's versatile: a classic focal length for candid street work. It's fast: an f/2.8 maximum aperture and dual stepping motors for autofocus. And like all Z lenses, its image quality is next-level.

On a full-frame Z camera, you get a classic 28mm view for street work, architecture, interiors, and situational portraits. On a DX-format Z camera, you get a 42mm equivalent view for natural snapshots, videos, portraits, and more.

The NIKKOR Z 28mm f/2.8 is so compact and lightweight, you’ll forget it’s even there. A compact prime, it doesn’t extend or retract, so it’s always ready. Take it wherever you go as your main walk-around lens or as a lightweight second lens.
Get in close.
With a close focusing distance of 0.63 feet (0.19 meters), NIKKOR Z 28mm f/2.8 rewards you for getting close to your subject. The wide perspective and deep depth of field let you incorporate more background information into your videos and stills.
Dim the lights.
The larger Z mount draws even more low-light performance from the wide f/2.8 aperture. Capture the mood of dimly lit situations with clarity and sharpness.
The multi-focus difference.
Traditional primes focus by moving one group of lens elements with one motor. The NIKKOR Z 28mm f/2.8 divides that work between two focus groups and two high-speed, ultra-quiet stepping motors moving in sync with each other—a first for a non-S-line Z lens. This multi-focus system focuses faster, but it also reduces distortion at the frame edges and close-range scenes.
Customizable control.
The control ring can be customized for the way you shoot. Use it for precise manual focusing or to adjust aperture, ISO or exposure compensation.
Video savvy.
A classic 28mm is an outstanding video lens. The NIKKOR Z 28mm f/2.8 greatly suppresses focus breathing to prevent angle-of-view shifts during recording. Make smooth iris adjustments that create a natural shift in brightness. And all the while, the dual stepping motors are operating in near silence to preserve your audio integrity.
Technology
- Stepping Motor
NIKKOR Z lenses use a stepping motor for fast, accurate, smooth, quiet autofocus with reduced wobbling. This quiet drive system makes the lenses ideal for use when shooting video. - Aspherical Lens
A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface. Used to reduce aberrations and enable a more compact lens size. Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful in correcting distortion in wide-angle lenses and help contribute to a lighter, more compact design by reducing the number of standard (spherical) elements necessary. Aspherical lens elements correct these distortions by continuously changing the refractive index from the center of the lens. - IF Lens
A NIKKOR lens in which only the internal lens group shifts during focusing. Thus, IF NIKKOR does not change in size during AF operation, allowing for compact, lightweight lenses capable of closer focusing distances. These lenses will be designated with the abbreviation IF on the lens barrel. - Super Integrated Coating
Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for its multilayer coating of the optical elements in NIKKOR lenses. - Electromagnetic Diaphragm Mechanism
An electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism in the lens barrel provides highly accurate electronic diaphragm or aperture blade control when using auto exposure during continuous shooting.

All our shipments are fully insured. For shipments valued over $200, a direct signature will be required upon delivery.
We utilize various shipping carriers, with FedEx Express being our primary choice for 2-Day and Overnight shipping within the US, as well as International deliveries.
We accept returns within 14 days of delivery, subject to a restocking fee of up to 15%. This fee is not for profit, but to cover the costs associated with selling an item. Each return is evaluated individually, and we strive to minimize this fee. In many instances, we waive it entirely if the refund credit can be applied towards another item in the store.
Please note, all returned items must be in the condition in which they were shipped. If the items are returned in a different condition, we will not be able to accept them.
We highly recommend visiting us in person to experience our fine photographic tools before deciding which tool best fits your needs. Please note that our inventory is distributed among our three stores, and what you see online may be at any of these locations. Below are a few points that we’d like to make in order to meet your needs for in store pick up.
The location of each item is indicated online. For convenience, you can choose to pick up your item at any of our stores. Once purchased, the item should be ready for pick up within 4 hours at the designated store, although this might vary depending on the store's busyness and time of day. We request that you wait for a notification from us confirming that your order is ready for pick up, to ensure the best service.
If your chosen item is not available at your preferred store, we can transfer it there after purchase. If you want to pick up an item at a different store, select that store for pick up during checkout, or choose a regular shipping method and let us know your preferred pick up store via support@camerawest.com or by responding to your order confirmation email.

We offer a concierge trade-in program for the gear you'd like to upgrade, cross-grade, or simply pass on to a new owner. This enables you to acquire the tools that fit your specific needs. The easiest way to trade is to bring your gear into one of our stores and meet with us in person. However, we also accommodate those who can't visit our stores. Our online process is both personal and simple.
To begin, fill out the form on our Trade // Sell page with the details of the fine photographic equipment or watches you'd like to trade in. One of our team members will then contact you to confirm any details we might need for an accurate estimate. We will provide an estimate that doesn’t only look at the value of your trade in but the whole picture of where you want to go. If the estimate is satisfactory to you, we can provide a shipping label for you to ship your gear to one of our stores for a final inspection and store credit. Finally, we apply that credit towards your new gear!
